Melissa Baumgartner Umulis, Partner / Attorney

Melissa Baumgartner Umulis is an experienced family law attorney whose practice is focused almost exclusively on divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, paternity, Personal Protection Order (PPO), step-parent adoption, prenuptial and postnuptial agreement, and guardianship matters. 

Melissa received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 2006 and graduated, cum laude, from Pace University School of law in 2010, and is licensed to practice in New York and Michigan. Melissa began her career in New York where she was employed at the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice and served as attorney for the children in child protective matters in Bronx Family Court. Melissa moved back to her hometown of Traverse City in 2014 and has continued her family law practice since then. Melissa is dedicated to helping her clients through some of the most challenging times of their lives. Melissa is committed to resolving cases efficiently and amicably whenever possible and is fully prepared to litigate when necessary.

Melissa has served on the board of the Women Lawyers Association, Zero Tolerance: Ending Child Sexual Abuse, and the Child and Family Services of Northern Michigan board, and is trained in the collaborative divorce process, demonstrating her dedication to supporting families and children. 

Melissa and her husband Daniel, owner of Six Lugs, live in Traverse City with their two young children.
